Front walls, retaining walls, raised beds and steps — the structure that turns a plain plot into a garden you’ll use.
A low front wall with piers and a matching gate gives a house kerb appeal and defines a new driveway. In the back garden, walls create levels, hold back soil and give you raised beds and seating. We build in brick, natural stone and rendered block, on concrete footings sized for the job.
York has a huge variety of brick — from Victorian reds to 1930s rustic facings and modern buffs. Where a new wall meets an existing house or boundary, we’ll aim to source bricks or stone that blend in, and match mortar colour and pointing style as closely as we can.
Retaining walls hold back significant loads of soil and water. Taller retaining walls need proper design with drainage behind them; we’ll be clear about what we can build and when a structural engineer’s input is advisable.

Generally walls up to 2m (or 1m next to a highway used by vehicles) don’t need planning permission in England. Listed buildings and conservation areas can have extra controls.
We’ll do our best to source matching or complementary bricks and mortar. With older homes, reclaimed bricks are sometimes the closest match.
Yes. Water building up behind a retaining wall adds a lot of pressure, so we include drainage behind the wall — usually free-draining backfill with weep holes or a land drain.
Yes. We can combine patios, paths, walls, raised beds and fencing into one project, planned so everything works together.
